Bettas are particularly known for their stunning beauty, which causes many people who first view them to doubt that they are in fact real fish. Goldfish are also no slouches in the looks department, although it must be said that they do take a back seat to the more visually arresting spectacle of the Bettas. One thing that Goldfish have over the Bettas however is that they are extremely easy to take care of.
Caring for Bettas and goldfish is really not all that hard. With a little research and the proper equipment at your disposal, you too can have a tank full of these beautiful marine creatures in your very own home, providing you and your family with long hours of enjoyment and viewing pleasure.
Bettas (which are also known as Japanese fighting fish) on the whole need a bit more care and attention than goldfish but they are by no means that difficult to take care of. One thing that you should keep in mind however is that Bettas tend to be quite feisty little creatures and the males in particular can be quite ornery. They will often battle it out among themselves until only one male is left alive. Quite harsh really but such is the nature of these creatures so it is something that you would do well to remember unless you like the sight of dead male Bettas floating around in your aquarium!
If you have a somewhat larger tank, by all means stock up on many female Bettas as is reasonably possible but limit the male Betta to one. The females will still fight among themselves but on the whole, they are not nearly as vicious and aggressive as their male counterparts.
One of the beautiful things about Bettas is that they do not really need a very large space to thrive. Of course the larger the aquarium is the better it is all around for the health of your fish no matter what the variety but it is good to know that Bettas are not quite so fragile in this respect.
In contrast to all of these considerations, goldfish care and maintenance is a marvel of ease and simplicity. They are a particularly robust and long lasting species, in some cases living up to 50 years of age!
Caring For Bettas And Goldfish
One of the other factors which makes goldfish care so easy is that they are omnivorous creatures meaning that they can feed on both plants and animals. They also eat a lot so they will be able to handle more food than your other fish typically can. All the same though, overfeeding can still become a cause for concern so this is something that you should guard against.
